Politics and Politicians:

January 30, 2007

On January 19, 2007 Colorado Senator Salazar had given a speech - on Spanish speaking radio - as a pre response to President Bush's State of the Union Address. How can you give a response to a speech not yet given? Any way I e-mailed Sen Salazar asking for an English transcript of his speech. After eleven days I called his Washington DC office and requested it. This is the link to his "pre-ply" .

Senator Salazar is good decent person who serves Colorado well. As a constituent of his I felt obligated to ask a few questions and make a few  comments. This is my reply

  1. Does it really matter what political party gets the credit for doing something right? This is The United States of America and the best interest of our country should be the first and foremost priority of any and all US Citizen. PERIOD.
  2. Career politicians are not needed. Then again neither are term limits, States that have term limits have succeeded in limiting their possibilities since their representative will be a two term rep and not a life long politician (Ted Kennedy) as a result the term limit state will always be the “Junior” Rep and held back. Maybe the solution would be to make the representative position a competitively salaried position with the same “fringe” benefits as in the real working world. Ask yourself this one question….  Why do the potential representatives spend millions of dollars to gain a job that pays six figures?  It is because of the “perks, prestige and power”.  Have they forgotten who they work for?                                 2007 payroll for our federal representatives….Congress and senators = $168,000 / Vice president = $215,700 / President = $400,000 / Cabinet members = $186,600             http://www.thecapitol.net/FAQ/payandperqs.htm
  3. According to http://elections.us.reuters.com/top/news/usnN24211633.html the average campaign cost in the 2006 elections is $59 / vote for the Senate and $35 / vote for Congress. In other words $2.6 Billion in campaign costs. And we are crying about the cost of securing our freedom from terrorism.
  4. Where have the rights and privileges for the honest American gone? Why do criminals and non-US citizens have MORE rights and privileges than the tax paying  citizen? What about medical care for illegal immigrates (more on this subject later)
